One of the things I really loved about Rio was the hive of outdoor activities! 
Ofcourse the fine weather allows for this - but I noticed the good attitude and groups of good times it seemed to create. These type of games are usually played in home here, so extending this into the street made a homely feel for more people in more places... a welcome sprinkle I guess in a place with such an extreme disparities between the rich and the poor, homed and the homeless.
This man had an interesting face and warm welcoming body language, we talked - in different languages, but it didn't matter, a smile is multi lingual
The main thing was that we tried and we were friendly towards each other
